Meet Julio Martinez

Julio has lived in California his entire life. He attended the United Health Careers Institute where he earned a Pharmacy Technician certificate before entering college. Julio worked as a retail associate and then manager as he paid his way through college. Julio holds a B.S in Biology, an M.A in Secondary Education and a Single Subject Life Science Clear Credential-CLAD. He attended California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) where he obtained both degrees and credential.

 

Julio married his wife in 2000 and they have been Beaumont residents for almost 23 years. His wife is a second grade teacher in Beaumont. Julio and Martha have 2 sons, one an undergraduate majoring in Communications and the other has graduated with a B.A in Political Science and is currently in a Teacher Credential program. 

 

Julio’s father was an electrician and mother a school monitor. Julio was taught early in his childhood about commitment and service by his grandfather, a World War II veteran and teacher at the California Youth Authority as well as from his father, a Vietnam Veteran and electrician. He has a younger brother who works in youth probation. 

 

After Julio graduated from CSUSB he began his teaching career at Eisenhower High School in Rialto where he taught science. Julio was later hired at the Beaumont Unified School District as a biology teacher for Beaumont High School. He has been teaching there for almost 20 years. He is a member of the Beaumont Teachers Association (BTA).

 

Furthermore, because of his commitment to public service, Julio has held the position as the Beaumont City Clerk. In 2016, he was elected to the Beaumont City Council where he has served for over 7 years. Julio has also served as the Mayor of Beaumont both in 2019 and 2023. As a Beaumont City Councilmember, Julio has served as a board member on the Southern California Association of Governments and is currently serving as a board member on the Western Riverside County Regional Conservation Authority. He is also a current committee member on the League of California Cities Environmental Quality Committee.
